Vergenoegd Löw’s Clara’s Barn, nestled on a truly historic estate in Somerset West on the Stellenbosch Wine Route, offers an atmospheric fine‑dining experience in what is likely the oldest surviving barn in the Western Cape. Thoughtfully restored with cobbled floors, original troughs, vaulted ceilings, crisp whitewashed walls and sleek contemporary accents, the space harmonises heritage and modern elegance .
Under the guidance of chef Drikus Brink (with influence from culinary luminary Bertus Basson), Clara’s Barn serves a five‑course tasting menu, beginning with whimsical “versnaperinge” – playful, nostalgic bites. Ingredients are sourced from the estate or local small-scale growers, with foraged herbs, nose‑to‑tail elements, mushrooms and seasonal produce front and centre. Wine pairings, expertly chosen to complement each course, include estate-produced labels.
The ambience is relaxed yet refined, served with excellence in an informally elegant setting. With a function room for up to 80 guests, it’s ideal for special occasions. Nestled amid vineyards, indigenous gardens and mountain vistas, Clara’s Barn not only honours South Africa’s culinary heritage—it elevates it, offering a memorable destination experience on the wine estate.
