The Mansion

Gent, Belgium

The foundations of what are known today as The Mansion were laid in the 19th century.
The grounds were originally bought by Hippolyte Leopold Heughebaert in 1892. He commissioned an architect by the name of Masereel to build him and his family a home, The Mansion.

Guests can clearly see the neoclassical style used in the face of the building as well as in the entryway with its dramatic pillars and detailing. Most of the detailing on the walls and ceilings however was not added until after the death of Hippolyte by the new owners who added murals and ceiling paintings. The Paintings in the entryway depict personifications of all the major art forms and have been kept unchanged since they were first painted.

Today, The Mansion is there for guests to write the rest of its story.
