Nieuwewerf (“new yard”) is a sanctuary of three distinct, self-catering guesthouses in Prince Albert. We offer a unique blend of luxury, thoughtful design, and the serene beauty of the Karoo. Each guesthouse—Nieuwehuyz (“new home”), Nieuwerust (“new rest”), and Nieuweschuur (“new barn”)—is a fully contained retreat. From the original cottage built in 2012 to our latest loft completed in 2022, every detail is crafted for your comfort. Enjoy spacious bedrooms with modern en-suites, fully equipped kitchens, and private courtyards perfect for relaxation. Our architecture is a contemporary homage to the classic Karoo “brakdak” style. We’ve used modern materials like insulated roofs and sleek aluminium windows to replicate the natural cooling properties of traditional builds, ensuring a comfortable stay in the semi-desert climate. Sustainable features, including solar power and water-harvesting systems, are seamlessly integrated. Nieuwewerf is proudly universally accessible. Informed by the master builder’s own experience with wheelchair use, our design incorporates thoughtful elements like accessible levels, roll-in showers, lever taps, and carefully placed environmental controls, ensuring a seamless and comfortable stay for all guests.
